Patrick Akoto attends WAFU B Media Strategies Workshop in Cote D’voire

Senior Communications Manager at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Patrick Akoto, is in Cote D’voire attending a three-day West African Football Union (WAFU Zone B) Media Strategies Workshop – the first of its kind in the thriving zone.

The three day workshop runs from Tuesday, February 4 to Thursday February 6, 2025, at WAFU B’s new Headquarters in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan.

Representatives of all the seven members of the regional body are in attendance as well as a representative of WAFU Zone A has also been invited to benefit from the training workshop.

The workshop focuses on digital communication, sports communication, crisis management and sensitive communication, sponsorship, and partnership, amongst other exciting topics.

The workshop will provide participants with the skills and knowledge needed to develop effective media and communication strategies aimed at improving the promotion of football across the divide.

The knowledge shared at the workshop will enhance the operations of the Communication Department of the Associations and the sub-regional body.

The President of the Ivorian Football Federation, Yacine Idriss Diallo, opened the workshop on behalf of WAFU B President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, alongside hardworking WAFU B Executive Director, Philippe Tchere.

Participants are being trained on various aspects of media relations, content creation, and digital communication strategies.

The sessions have been designed to help the member associations build stronger media presence, engage with fans more effectively, and improve the various communication channels.

The initiative reflects WAFU’s commitment to enhancing the professionalism of football management in West Africa, ensuring that the region’s football activities receive better coverage and visibility across local and international platforms.

WAFU B is organising the workshop in partnership with the Côte d’Ivoire Digital Press Network, France24 and DW.

Two arrested over robbery attack on Berekum Chelsea team

The Police have arrested two suspects, including the alleged gang leader, in connection with the robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea football team that resulted in the death of one of the players.

According to a Police update, the arrests were made after intelligence-led operations by security personnel.

One of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with the police.

He has since been taken to a hospital where he is receiving medical treatment, while the other suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations.

The Police indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang linked to the attack.

They assured the public that more details will be provided as investigations progress.

Mahama arrives in Brazzaville for Congo president’s investiture

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Brazzaville to attend the investiture ceremony of Denis Sassou N’Guesso.

The ceremony follows the re-election of President Sassou N’Guesso for another five year term as leader of the Republic of the Congo.

President Mahama travelled to Brazzaville shortly after launching his Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Dodowa.

He is expected to return to Accra after the ceremony scheduled for Thursday morning.
