Miss Ghana UK 2027 edition to celebrate Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary

In March 2027 Ghana will mark 70 years of independence. It is a proud moment for Ghanaians at home and across the diaspora as the nation celebrates seven decades of sovereignty and self-governance.
Miss Ghana UK will be right at the heart of the celebration. This week the organisers of the longest running Black and Ethnic Minority pageant in the United Kingdom announced that the 2027 edition will honour this historic milestone.
The announcement also opens the search for the next Miss Ghana UK Queen. This follows the media partnership between Miss Ghana UK and EIB signed in July 2026 which will help share the journey with audiences far and wide.
Ms Mavis Osei, Chief Executive Officer of Miss Ghana UK and the MGUK Foundation, described the 2027 edition as a landmark moment. It will bring together beauty, culture, heritage and leadership while uniting the Ghanaian diaspora in celebration of Ghana’s journey as an independent nation.
“For 70 years Ghana’s story has been shaped by the courage of its people and the richness of its culture. It has been carried by the strength of its communities and the contributions of generations of Ghanaians at home and across the world. Miss Ghana UK 2027 will honour this remarkable journey. It will also give a new generation of young Ghanaian women in the United Kingdom a platform to celebrate their heritage and embrace their identity and help write the next chapter of Ghana’s story,” she said.
Under the theme “Ghana’s Golden Story: 70 Years in the Making” the pageant will celebrate the moments and traditions and people who have shaped Ghana since independence in 1957. Audiences can look forward to fashion and music and storytelling and the arts alongside tourism and community engagement. Throughout the pageant the vital role of the diaspora in promoting Ghana around the world will take centre stage.
Miss Ghana UK is far more than a pageant. It is an educational programme that teaches young women, their families and the wider diaspora community about Ghanaian cultural heritage.
Through history and language and traditions and storytelling participants and audiences alike gain a deep sense of pride in where they come from. The young women who take part grow into confident and socially conscious ambassadors for Ghana and shining representatives of the Ghanaian community in the United Kingdom.
The announcement also marks the close of the reign of the current Queen Miss Sheidelle Annor at the end of September 2026. Her time as Queen has been an important chapter in the Miss Ghana UK story. Miss Ghana UK warmly thanks her for her journey and her contribution and wishes her every success in her next chapter.
Miss Ghana UK is a cultural and empowerment platform that celebrates Ghanaian heritage. It gives young women of Ghanaian descent in the United Kingdom real opportunities for personal development and leadership and community engagement and cultural representation.
Through the pageant and its wider initiatives Miss Ghana UK connects generations and strengthens ties to Ghanaian heritage. It empowers young women to become positive ambassadors in the United Kingdom and in Ghana and beyond.
Miss Ghana UK is also an educational programme that teaches young women and their families and the wider diaspora and community about Ghanaian cultural heritage so that it is passed on proudly from one generation to the next.
