Ghana, US Film Fund explore partnership to promote tourism and creative economy

Ghana is exploring a major partnership with a US-based film and television fund to showcase its tourism destinations, develop local creative talent and attract investment into the creative economy through international film productions.
The initiative was discussed during a meeting between the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and Akunna E. Cook, Founder and CEO of Next Narrative Africa and representative of the fund.
Ms. Cook disclosed that two of the first nine projects supported by the fund were set in Ghana, with another production to be filmed across Ghana and Nigeria.
She said the fund wants to work with Ghana to showcase its tourism destinations, cultural heritage and creative talent to international audiences, especially the African diaspora.
She also invited the Minister to participate in a proposed panel at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, involving creative economy ministers from across Africa.
Madam Gomashie welcomed the collaboration and pledged the Ministry’s support, noting it will strengthen Ghana’s creative industries, promote cultural identity and position Ghana as a destination for film production and tourism.
She was accompanied by her Deputy, Yussif Issaka Jajah, and Director of Tourism, Dr. Geoffrey Deladem Tamakloe.
