God has not abandoned you …Duker assures widows

George Duker presenting cash to the widows
Member of Parliament for Tarkwa -Nsuaem in the Western Region, Mr George Mireku Duker, has feted 420 widows in the constituency, with the assurance that “God has not abandoned you.”
“As we pray this season, my wishes are that, there shall be no poverty, widowhood should not be about sorrows, let’s enjoy and show appreciation to God,” he prayed.
Mr Duker gave this assurance when he served the widows with food and drinks, and also gave them hampers each containing a piece of cloth, rice, cooking oil, beverages and cash on boxing day.
The yearly event, which was part of Mr Duker’s initiative to celebrate the Christmas and show care and love to the underprivileged and needy at Tarkwa -Nsuaem, was attended by guests including the Queen of Apinto Division, Nana Abena Boaduwaa II, and the Western Regional Director of Education, Mrs Felicia Agyeibea Okai.
Mr Duker said, the yearly event was a happy moment to thank God for His mercies, blessings and comfort for the widows.
He said that Christians had a duty to care for the society and also make the world a better place.
The MP encouraged the widows not to give up on God and that “through people He is caring for His children.”
“This occasion is not to remember your sorrows but to appreciate what God has done for us. Indeed, let’s remember that God cares for all of us. As we kneel and pray, we pray against poverty and hunger. Bestir yourselves, dance and thank God, forget about your pains,” he stressed.
Quoting biblical accounts of David, Mr Duker said God knew the weaknesses and hearts of everybody and never forgot His people and that “despite the global, regional, national or local economic and social challenges, He will do things in His own time and we know he can do it.”
The Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa -Nsuaem, Mr Benjamin Kesse, noted that, the event was tailored to promote the welfare of widows and the disadvantaged in society, adding that “ God has listened to your prayers.”’
“This is Christmas and we are promoting healthy life and growth. We pray that the next season will also be a blessing to us all. We also pray for longer life especially for Mr Duker”, he prayed.
Secretary of Widows Might Foundation, Beatrice Corangle , thanked Mr Duker for the yearly event which she described as a respite and joy to beneficiaries.
She said “ We seek God’s guidance and blessings for Mr Duker for what he is doing for widows in Tarkwa -Nsuaem.”

State closes case in missing US$2M ‘Sky Train’ matter

The prosecution has officially rested its case in The Republic v Solomon Asamoah & Another, the high-profile legal battle commonly referred to as the “Sky Train” case.
The Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem Sai announced the development, praising the state’s team of hard-working prosecutors for successfully anchoring the state’s evidence before the High Court.
The criminal trial centers on the former Chief Executive Officer and the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF).
The duo stands accused of illegally authorizing and paying out US$2 million to a foreign company without obtaining board directives or other mandatory statutory approvals.
State investigators have confirmed that the disbursed millions cannot be found.
Following the closure of the prosecution’s case, the accused persons moved the court for an opportunity to file a submission of no case.
The presiding judge granted the application, ordering the defense to submit their arguments by June 8.
The outcome of the June 8 filings will decide the fate of the trial:
With this, if the judge finds the defense’s submission convincing, the accused will be acquitted and discharged however, If the judge dismisses the submission, the court will order the accused officials to take the stand and explain why they should not face prison sentences.

Sammy Awuku mourns demise of Akuapem North NDC Constituency Secretary Isaac Batsa

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammy Awuku, has expressed deep sorrow following the sudden passing of Isaac Batsa, the constituency secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker issued a statement on Tuesday reacting to the news, which has shocked the local political community.
Mr.Awuku praised the late NDC secretary for his bipartisan approach to local governance.
He noted that despite their different political affiliations, Batsa consistently rose above party lines to serve the constituency with diligence.
The MP revealed that the news was particularly shocking given that he had last interacted with Batsa just three days prior on Saturday.
Concluding his statement, Sammy Awuku extended his heartfelt condolences to Batsa’s family, the constituency and regional executives, and the entire NDC fraternity, wishing the deceased peaceful eternal rest.
