Archbishop J B Kwofie confirms 59 at St John of God Catholic Church, Amrahia

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev John Bonaventure Kwofie has called on Christians never to grow weary but persevere in prayer since that is the only way to succeed in life.
Preaching the homily at St John of God Catholic Church, Amrahia, on Sunday, October 16, 2022, where he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 59 candidates, the Prelate encouraged the faithful to use prayer as the only weapon to win against Satan.
He explained that the Sacrament of Confirmation would make the confirmants to become soldiers of Christ, adding that the reception of the sacrament began with the renewal of their baptismal vows and urged them to work for the propagation of the kingdom of God.
The confirmants who had undergone many weeks of studies, were drawn from St John of God Catholic Church, Amrahia and St John Paul ll Catholic Church, Danfa, both in the Adentan Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Archbishop Kwofie asked the confirmants to remain faithful to their calling by staying in the Catholic Church, pursue the cross of Jesus in all sincerity to enable them to attain salvation.
“Now that you have decided to follow Jesus, there should be no turning back but you must be faithful in what you have learnt and believed,” he advised.
He called on the faithful to refrain from illegal mining for personal gains, even if the land belonged to their ancestors because the act was destroying the environment with serious consequences.
He commended the faithful for responding promptly in providing humanitarian assistance to residents of Weija in Accra who were affected by the recent floods, and urged them to cooperate with the Archdiocese in measures put in place to combat cyber-crime in the country.
The President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mr Edward Adimazoya, in his welcome address assured the Archbishop that the church was determined to work hard towards attaining the status of a parish. He pleaded for the elevation of St John Paul ll Catholic Church, Danfa, an out station of the church, to the status of a Rectorate because of the success it had chalked over the period.
He said St John of God Catholic Church had planned to construct a multipurpose Parish Conference Hall and meeting rooms, Grotto and a school in the medium to long term among other projects.
Very Rev Fr Christopher Vordzorgbe , a Visiting Priest prayed for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who were in church, while the Knights of St John International, Commandary 898, and Ladies Auxiliaries 814 of St John of God Catholic Church, Amrahia, presented an undisclosed amount of money in support of the Archbishop’s “ Legacy of Hope Project.”
On October 31, 2021, St John of God Catholic Church was elevated to the status of a Rectorate and Very Rev Fr Bernard Kyei was appointed as the Priest-In-Charge.

Tema Police arrest driver, seize 12 sacks of suspected indian hemp

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old driver, Bismark Kpormeno, for possession of a large quantity of compressed plant materials suspected to be Indian hemp.
The arrest was made on Sunday, 31 May 2026 by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit during an operation along the Tema-Ada road.
According to police, the suspect was driving a Hyundai Mighty I container truck and failed to stop when signaled. He attempted to evade arrest but was pursued and apprehended at Bondase.
A search of the vehicle revealed twelve 12 sacks and eighty 80 parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape.
Preliminary investigations show the narcotics were allegedly loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The truck and exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.
The Tema Regional Police Command says it remains committed to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
They also urged the public to support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.

Fatal Peki-Tsame road crash claims 15 lives, 25 injured

Firefighters from the Peki Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to a fatal head-on collision involving a Mercedes-Benz container truck (WR 1553-C) travelling from Nkwanta to Accra and a Mercedes-Benz passenger bus (GR 3215-E) travelling from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region.
The crash occurred at Peki-Tsame near Peki Senior High School in the early hours of Tuesday, 2nd June 2026.
A total of forty (40) persons were involved, comprising twenty-one (21) males, fifteen (15) females, and four (4) children.
Through a coordinated rescue operation, firefighters extricated 25 injured casualties, including 23 adults and two children.
Sadly, 15 persons lost their lives, made up of nine males and 6 females.
The injured were conveyed to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were handed over to the Police, who conveyed them to the hospital mortuary for preservation and further investigation. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The Ghana National Fire Service has extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and urges all motorists to observe road traffic regulations, avoid dangerous driving practices, and exercise maximum caution on the roads to help prevent accidents and save lives.
