Adidome Community Gets First Public Library

The Adidome community in the Central Tongu District has celebrated a historic milestone with the commissioning of its first-ever public library. The inauguration drew high-profile attendees, including the District Chief Executive (DCE), the Director-General of the Ghana Library Authority, traditional leaders, education officials, development partners, and local residents.
For a district that has gone decades without such a facility, the opening of the Adidome Community Library represents a new chapter of promise, educational opportunity, and transformation.
Addressing guests, Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Dufia and landlord of Adidome, emphasized that the library is more than just a building. “This library is a gift to our children, students, teachers, workers, and all who seek self-improvement,” he said, quoting Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Togbe Agyeman V commended the E.P. Church for donating the building, the Ghana Library Authority for assuming management responsibility, and the District Assembly for providing security, cleaning, and logistical support. He urged the youth to embrace the facility as a hub for research, digital learning, literacy, and personal growth. “May this library stand as a beacon of hope, learning, and opportunity for all who walk through its doors,” he added.
Representing the CH Group Foundation, sponsors of the library’s educational materials, Mr. Rex Addo Kwakye, Operations and Research Lead, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to expanding educational access in underserved communities. He also paid tribute to Laydrown Agordome, whose vision and relentless efforts initiated the library project, describing him as a shining example of community-driven leadership.
The Ghana Library Authority’s Mr. Israel Yao Dzantor assured the community that the necessary books and learning materials would be supplied in phases. He emphasized the Authority’s commitment to ensuring the library becomes a well-resourced center of knowledge and a vibrant hub for learning throughout the Central Tongu District.
Officials highlighted that libraries are not merely repositories of books but gateways to innovation, growth, and transformation. The Adidome Community Library now stands as a symbol of hope and opportunity for all residents.

ECOWAS Court dismisses former Chief Justice’s suit against Ghana

The ECOWAS Community Court has dismissed all seven claims filed by former Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, against the Republic of Ghana, according to Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem-Sai.
In a facebook post, Mr. Srem-Sai said the court rejected all the allegations made by the former Chief Justice against the country.
He further disclosed that the court did not grant Mrs. Torkornoo’s request for US$10 million in damages.
According to him, the court ruled that, “in light of the Court’s conclusions that Ghana has not violated any of the Applicant’s rights under the African Charter as alleged, the Court makes no decision on reparations.”
The Deputy Attorney-General praised the team of state attorneys who represented Ghana in the case, commending them for their hard work and extensive research in defending the Republic.
“Thanks, again, to our team of illustrious State Attorneys who put in hours and hours of research to support the Republic’s defence,” he said.
The ruling brings an end to the case brought before the regional court by the former Chief Justice, with the ECOWAS Court finding no violation of her rights by the Republic of Ghana.
