International Ghanaian Marketing Communications Company, Akwaaba UK in collaboration with the British High Commission in Ghana, on Thursday 13th April 2023, launched this year’s edition of its popular annual events, Ghana Party in the Park and Expo Ghana at a colourful event at the Residence of the British High Commissioner to Ghana in Accra.
According to the organizers, following the success of the maiden edition of Expo Ghana last year, this year’s edition will be happening for two days on Wednesday 12th July and Thursday 13th July 2023 at Canary Wharf Hotel, London. Ghana Party in the Park is scheduled for Saturday 15th July 2023 at Trent Park, Cockfosters, in London.
Expo Ghana is a platform for Ghana-made products to be showcased in the United Kingdom for patronage and to create opportunities for Ghanaian entrepreneurs. In addition, it aims to harness the export potential of Ghanaian SMEs and creates business relationships between UK and Ghana-based entrepreneurs.
Ghana Party in the Park is currently the biggest Ghanaian event outside the country which attracts over 10,000 patrons yearly. It is positioned as a family fun day out with activities for people of all ages, from children’s corner, durbar of chiefs, performances by top African musicians, a food court, an exhibition of African products and services and many more.
Chris Koney, a member of the Akwaaba UK team, speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of Akwaaba UK, Dennis Tawiah said “African-made products are quickly gaining prominence in global markets and to ensure Ghana capitalizes on this growing interest, Expo Ghana was created last year to provide the platform for Ghana made products to be showcased and create opportunities for Ghanaian entrepreneurs in the UK. From the positive feedback from participants from last year and the request from other stakeholders, we are adding one day this year to cater for the real estate and construction sector”.
Mr. Koney indicated that Akwaaba UK’s engagement with local and global brands over the years has positioned the company to provide tailor-made services for African businesses wanting to enter the UK market, find the right partners across Europe, launch or activate their products and services, market research, marketing, and business development.
Her Excellency Harriet Thompson, the British High Commissioner to Ghana lauded Akwaaba UK for the great initiative to create opportunities for both Ghanaian and UK businesses and creating a platform for deliberations between Ghanaian and UK industry captains to explore possibilities for partnerships and building synergies.
She further complimented Akwaaba UK for sustaining Ghana Party in the Park for over a decade and growing it to become one of the events to look forward to on the African entertainment calendar in the UK. She added that it is a great tool to enhance Ghana – UK relations and promote business between the two countries.
Other speakers on the night were the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mark Okraku-Mantey, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotions Centre (GIPC), Yofi Grant, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Ambassador Michael Oquaye Jr., and Alex Dadey, Executive Chairman of KGL Group & Board Chairman, GIPC.
In addition, some sponsors and partners shared their experiences last year and the reason they are on board this year. They included CBG Bank, TapTap Send, Melcom Group, and Lakeside Estate.

Ghanaian musician, Cina Soul, gave a splendid performance on the night.
General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has filed his nomination to contest the position of General Secretary again as the party begins its rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He was accompanied by party stalwarts and supporters who were in high spirits, expressing confidence that he is the right person to hold the position.
Speaking after filing his nomination, Mr Kodua Frimpong assured the rank and file of the party that he would not disappoint them.
“I can assure you that the faith the rank and file of the party have had in me, I will never disappoint them,” he said.
He also pledged to run a clean campaign devoid of personal attacks.
“I can assure you that our internal campaign will be devoid of personal attacks,” he told his fellow contestants and the rank and file of the party as he seeks to retain his position.
His tenure has seen the party through the 2024 general elections, where the NPP lost power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after eight years in government.
The party is currently in a rebuilding phase, with internal elections scheduled to elect new national executives to lead its reorganization towards the 2028 polls.
The General Secretary position is considered one of the most influential in the party’s administrative structure, responsible for the day-to-day running of the party secretariat and implementation of party decisions.

The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has disputed claims made on social media by comedian Michael Blackson concerning the treatment given to his late mother, saying a review found that the allegations did not accurately reflect what happened during her stay at the hospital.
In a statement issued in Accra on August 5, 2026, the management of UGMC expressed condolences to Mr. Blackson and his family over the death of his 83-year-old mother, who died at the facility on July 16, 2026.
The hospital said it had taken the concerns raised by Mr. Blackson seriously and conducted a thorough review in line with its clinical and administrative procedures.
According to the statement, the facts presented by Mr. Blackson on social media contained “numerous inaccuracies” and did not accurately reflect the medical care provided to his mother.
UGMC explained that she was referred to the facility from another hospital and received treatment there from May 27 to July 16, 2026, a period of about eight weeks.
The hospital stated that it would not release details of her diagnosis, treatment, medical records or other aspects of her care because it had a duty to protect patient confidentiality, even after death.
It said the decision was intended to respect the dignity of the deceased and the privacy of her family.
UGMC further stated that all clinical decisions at the facility are made by qualified healthcare professionals based on medical judgment, established standards of care and the best interests of the patient.
The statement added that such decisions are made in consultation with authorised family representatives where necessary and that billing and financial procedures are governed by institutional policies and are separate from clinical decision-making.
The hospital noted that it values feedback from patients and their families and considers both positive and negative comments important for improving the quality of care.
Mr. Blackson had earlier used social media to criticise the care his mother received at UGMC, prompting the hospital’s response.
