As part of the nationwide distribution of furniture to basic schools in need, the Ministry of Education dispatched 2300 dual desks to over 80 basic schools in Kpandai Education Directorate in the Northern Region.
This is in line with Government’s effort to provide basic needs and amenities to public schools and also to improve quality education in Ghana.
Meanwhile, about 2700 more desks are expected to be dispatched to other schools in the same educational directorate in two weeks.
In total, a little over 40,000 pieces of furniture which include dual desks, library chairs and tables, teacher’s chairs, and tables, notice boards, and bookshelves among others are expected to be dispatched to various basic schools in the country.
The Ministry is convinced that little by little, they will reach the apex in their quest to improve Education in Ghana for our future leaders and generation.
A delegation from the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS) on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the management of The New Times Corporation (NTC), publishers of The Ghanaian Times and The Spectator.
The visit was to seek the support of NTC to promote its academic programmes and initiatives ahead of its official commissioning by President John Dramani Mahama next month.
In their interaction, Professor Mark Adom Asamoah, Vice Chancellor of the institution, said the university would offer programmes including Electrical, Computer, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, as well as Agronomy, Animal Science, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, and Food Science and Nutrition.
According to him, the institution was looking beyond academic qualifications to provide practical opportunities that could contribute to national development.
He added that the university had established an Innovation Centre equipped with machinery to give students hands-on experience, while entrepreneurship and leadership training would also form an integral part of the curriculum.
“We want to train students who can create jobs for themselves, with hands-on experience. Agriculture and engineering are some of the courses at heart,” Prof. Asamoah added.
The Vice Chancellor expressed confidence that a strong relationship with the media would enhance the university’s visibility, build its reputation and create greater awareness of its contribution to education, industry and national development.
Dr Paul Kwadwo Addo, Registrar of the Institution, added that admission advertisements were expected to be released next week and appealed to the media to disseminate information about the university.
The Managing Director of NTC, Dr Isaac Okpoti Nai, commended the institution for its worthy course and pledged the Corporation’s commitment to promoting its initiatives on its platforms.
“The youth shy away from agriculture because it has not been properly marketed to them. We must change that narrative and project agriculture as a lucrative venture,” he said.
The Editor of The Ghanaian Times, Mr David Adadevoh, lauded the management of the university for the visit and proposed an annual programme involving the banking sector and other stakeholders to discuss critical issues affecting agriculture and engineering.
On her part, the Editor of The Spectator, Mrs Georgina Quaittoo, pledged the newspaper’s support for the institution.

The Madina Divisional Police Command has arrested two executives of the Botwe Old Town Taxi Rank for allegedly plotting to murder a woman.
The suspects, Eric Tettey, former chairman of the taxi rank, and Abubakar Altine, the current chairman, are alleged to have contracted two armed men to kill Esther Danquah, a resident of Nanakrom and a susu collector operating at the Botwe Taxi Rank.
A police brief copied to the Ghana News Agency said officers received intelligence about the alleged plot about two weeks ago.
Acting on the information, a team of police officers on September 3, 2026, at about 7:30pm, conducted an operation in the area.
The team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Maxwell Oppong, Madina Divisional Crime Officer, included Detective Chief Inspector David Kuavoga, Detective Chief Inspector Churchill Odzeyem, Detective Inspector Valeria Adegu, and Detective Lance Corporal Isaac Aboagye.
It said the officers laid an ambush and arrested the suspects while they were allegedly preparing to execute the murder plot against Ms Danquah.
Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the suspects owed the victim money and allegedly sought to avoid repayment.
The two suspects have been detained to assist with investigations.
Police said they would be arraigned after investigations were completed. –GNA
