Veteran boxer Ayittey Powers has expressed his support for reforms in Ghana’s boxing industry after a meeting with Sports Minister Kofi Adams and National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Powers said he was pleased with the discussions and assured fans that better days are ahead for the sport.
“I don’t have any problem with the Sports Minister or the NSA. I’m very happy to be in this meeting. Everything is okay. I want to tell all boxing fans to relax because good things are coming,” he said.
He also revealed plans to revive his own boxing promotion, promising to give more opportunities to fighters.
“Very soon, Ayittey Powers Boxing Promotion will come, and we are going to give love and respect to our brother boxers. People shouldn’t be upset because everything is moving in the right direction,” he added.
Powers urged fans to remain patient and trust the process, noting that the cancellation of some fights should not discourage the boxing community.
“We have to thank Almighty God because He knows best. The important thing is that now the Sports Minister is happy, I am happy, and the boxing fans are also happy,” he mentioned.
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to address concerns in Ghana’s boxing industry and chart a new path for the sport.

Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Agyei Baffuor, has broken his silence on his confrontation with a woman who identified herself as an official of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking during the Minority’s engagement with the media on Wednesday, the lawyer said his decision not to comply with the woman’s directive was driven purely by fear for his personal safety.
According to him, the circumstances under which the woman approached him were suspicious, leading him to believe it could have been a kidnapping attempt.
“I refused to follow the woman who identified herself as an EOCO official because, I feared she wanted to kidnap me,” Lawyer Baffuor told journalists.
He explained that the said official failed to properly identify herself in a manner that would assure him of his safety, and as such, he deemed it prudent not to follow her.
Lawyer Baffuor maintained that any law-abiding citizen would have acted in the same manner under similar circumstances, stressing that his action was not intended to obstruct justice but to protect his life.
The Minority, during the press engagement, called on security agencies to ensure that officials on lawful duties properly identify themselves and follow due process to avoid creating fear and panic among citizens.

The Black Stars of Ghana have arrived in Côte d’Ivoire ahead of their highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier clash against the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire.
The team touched down in Bouaké on Wednesday morning after departing Accra, as preparations intensify for what promises to be a fierce West African derby.
In a post shared on social media, the Ghana Football Association announced the arrival with the caption: “From Accra to Bouaké. Black Stars have touched down for the AFCON qualifier against Côte d’Ivoire! “
Ghana will be looking to secure a vital result away from home on Thursday, September 24, as they continue their journey to qualify for the next edition of the AFCON.
The Elephants, playing on home soil, will be confident with the backing of their fans at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, but the Black Stars are expected to go all out for the crucial points.
The team is expected to hold a final training session today to fine-tune tactics before the showdown.
