Increased Common Fund paying off – Local Government Minister

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, says the government’s increased disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) is yielding visible results across the country.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House today, the Minister provided an update on projects being funded by the Assemblies.

Under health, he said 397 out of 566 CHPS compounds and health centres have been completed.

In the education sector, 502 out of 761 classroom blocks have been completed nationwide.

On water provision, he disclosed that 3,081 out of 4,029 mechanised and hand-pump boreholes have been completed, while 97 out of 134 Small Town Water Projects have also been completed, among other interventions.

The Minister said the improved flow of funds to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) has accelerated grassroots development and improved basic service delivery.
