What a day to say that forev­er goodbye-

To mourn and to be­moan,

To weep for and to grieve for,

To lament and to cry.

They rose with duty in their hearts,

Carrying Ghana’s hope into the sky.

Not for fortune, not for fame,

But for the name we all call home.

Mid-flight, the silence shattered.

Fate’s cold hand reached in,

And the eagles fell.

Dr Omane — healer, dreamer.

Murtala — fearless, unyielding.

And others, whose quiet courage

Will outlive the fading head­lines.

O Ghana, still thy restless streets.

We bow our flags, we bend our knees.

Their sacrifice is our inheritance –

Their flight, our eternal debt.

When such eagles fall,
