When eagles fall
What a day to say that forever goodbye-
To mourn and to bemoan,
To weep for and to grieve for,
To lament and to cry.
They rose with duty in their hearts,
Carrying Ghana’s hope into the sky.
Not for fortune, not for fame,
But for the name we all call home.
Mid-flight, the silence shattered.
Fate’s cold hand reached in,
And the eagles fell.
Dr Omane — healer, dreamer.
Murtala — fearless, unyielding.
And others, whose quiet courage
Will outlive the fading headlines.
O Ghana, still thy restless streets.
We bow our flags, we bend our knees.
Their sacrifice is our inheritance –
Their flight, our eternal debt.
When such eagles fall,
The sky itself remembers.
