Teachers’ strike, a concern for all

General Secretary GNAT, Musah Tanko

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concern about the ongoing teachers’ strike and its impact on education in the country.

Teachers play a crucial role in shaping the future of our children and the development of the nation. However, when disagreements between teachers and the government remain unresolved, it is the students who suffer most. The continued disruption of academic activities could affect teaching and learning, particularly for students preparing for important examinations.

While teachers have the right to demand better working conditions and the fulfilment of commitments, the government also has a responsibility to address their concerns through meaningful engagement. The situation should therefore not be allowed to continue without a clear solution.

I appeal to the government, teacher unions and all other stakeholders to return to the negotiating table and resolve the issues that have led to the strike. Both sides must be willing to compromise in the interest of Ghana’s children and the future of education.

The education of our children should not become a casualty of prolonged disagreements. I therefore urge all parties to act with urgency and resolve the matter as soon as possible.
