All set for maiden Black Star Fashion Week, November 4–7
Ghana is set to showcase its fashion and creative prowess on the global stage with the maiden edition of Black Star Fashion Week (BSFW), a national event aimed at discovering talent, uniting industry players and projecting Ghanaian fashion to the world.
The event is spearheaded by the Presidency-backed Black Star Experience Secretariat, led by Rex Owusu Marfo, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Structured around two connected experiences in Accra and Senchi, Black Star Fashion Week will transition from industry dialogue and talent discovery to a grand fashion celebration.
Speaking to The Spectator, the Coordinator for Black Star Experience, Mr Rex Owusu Marfo, said the first day, scheduled for November 4 at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, would feature the Black Star Fashion Summit.
According to him, the summit will bring together designers, fashion entrepreneurs, creatives, investors, buyers, manufacturers, policymakers and media representatives for discussions on entrepreneurship, branding, digital marketing, textile innovation, manufacturing, fashion finance, export readiness, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, sustainability and intellectual property.
Activities will include keynote addresses, panel discussions, fireside chats, masterclasses and workshops.
A key highlight will be the 16-Region Designer Programme, which will bring together emerging talents from across Ghana to interpret their regions’ identities, cultures, opportunities, heritage and craftsmanship through fashion.
The Accra programme will culminate in the selection of five top designers, with one advancing to the grand finale at Senchi.
On November 7, industry players will gather at the Royal Senchi for the Black Star Fashion Show. Beyond the runway, a Fashion Village will host designer showcases, retail exhibitions, textiles, artisan experiences, brand activations, beauty, technology and lifestyle experiences.
The event will also celebrate Ghana’s cultural diversity through music, dance, textiles, crafts, food and storytelling, while honouring outstanding contributors to the fashion ecosystem and creating business linkages between designers and investors.
The Black Star Experience is a Government of Ghana initiative to promote culture, arts, tourism and creative engagement, positioning Ghana as a leading cultural and creative capital of Africa.
