What’s the fate of NABCO trainees?
Dear Editor,
I read about the challenges of some members of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) which I find quite disturbing.
Some of the trainees who had threatened to go on demonstration said their allowances had been in arrears since September last year. They explained how ‘unbearable’ the situation was becoming for them and therefore called on the government to address their concerns.
I am aware the programme, which is meant to address unemployment, officially ended in October 2021 but was extended for some reasons. We would be glad if the government comes clear on the fate of the trainees who still go to work under the current ‘extended programme.’
The trainees want to know whether or not they would be paid following the extension and how many years the programme it is expected to run.
In the meantime, I wish to add a voice to the concerns of the trainees and if there are any arrears to be paid, it should be settled once and for all.
