The verdict was in my favour, the court did not grant my ex-wife’s demands – Asamoah Gyan

Award-winning Ghanaian footballer, and former captain of the Black Stars,  Asamoah Gyan has broken his silence on the report of his annulled marriage.

Speaking about the verdict making the rounds, Asamoah Gyan disclosed on Asempa FM this morning that it was rather in his favour.

According to him, the court granted his wish of annulling the marriage because his ex-wife was already married.

“The verdict was delivered in favour of me, unfortunately, her camp wants to twist it, so I called my ex-wife that I have kept quiet for many years, but because they are twisting it, I will defend myself,” he disclosed. 

“Why would they come and twist the verdict knowing I won the case?,” Asamoah Gyan quizzed.

The former captain of the Black Stars said the verdict meant he had been vindicated,” because after they looked at the case I presented they saw some truth in it and granted my wish.”

According to the lawyer of the ex-footballer, Asamoah Gyan headed to the court with the petition for annulment of his marriage because his wife whom he married in 2013 was married to another person who was not known to him.

According to lawyer Kusi-Appiah, “The wife on the other hand argued that the case brought was not true and that the stipulated marriage was a marriage of convenience and asked the court to dissolve the marriage and not annul it. She also asked the court to give her more than six houses, several cars and other things which the court did not grant.”

Mr Kusi-Appiah added that the court further made the findings that indeed Gifty was married before her union with Gyan and the court proceeded to annul it.

A High Court in Accra yesterday awarded properties, including a house in the United Kingdom, a four-bedroom house in Spintex, Accra, a filling station, and two cars, to Gifty Gyan, the ex-wife of former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan.

The court presided over by Hafisata Ameleboba JA, further granted a maintenance fee of GHC 25,000 cedis per month to be paid to Gifty.

This was after the court issued a decree of nullity, annulling their 2013 marriage.
