Team Ghana disappointing at Olympic Games

Ghana’s performance at the Olympic Games has been disheartening.

For me, I was left with concerns as to whether Ghana is indeed a sporting nation considering the quality of athletes we sent against those from other countries I consider as serious.

We started terribly with swimming where the Ghanaian swimmer (Harry Stacey) performed abysmally.

The other swimmer placed respectably well but not good enough to ensure qualification to the next stage of the competition.

The only time we celebrated was when Kweku Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu placed second and third in their respective 100m heats.

That celebration did not last as they missed out on places in the finals.

Clearly, the times our athletes churned out were nowhere near the medal winning times.

Such has been our story in most of the international championships but it is time for us to take a second look at sports administration in Ghana.

If it means going back to the basics, we should start as soon as possible. At least we have another four years to start preparations for the next Olympiad.
