Support the boy child
Dear Editor,
In recent years, we have made admirable strides in advocating for the girl child and rightly so. But in the midst of this progress, one question remains painfully overlooked: What about the boy child?
From childhood, boys are taught to suppress their emotions, to ‘be strong,’ and to figure life out on their own. Conversations around mental health, personal development, and emotional wellbeing often exclude them. As a result, many boys grow up silently struggling, without the guidance or support they desperately need.
This silence is dangerous. When we ignore the emotional needs of boys, we risk raising men who are broken, disconnected, and unable to express themselves. The boy child deserves mentorship, love, and a safe space to grow just as much as his sister does. Let us not wait until it is too late to care. It is time to support the boy child. It is time for balance.
