A 71-year old man was among the thousands of school children that wrote this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the Ahafo Region.
Mr Akwasi Baiden, a father of six children was spotted at the Ahafoman Senior High Technical School Centre B in the Asunafo North Municipality in the Ahafo Region, taking part in the examination that ended last Monday.
Mr Baiden who registered as a private candidate told journalists that he was determined to pass the exam to enable him benefit from the free Senior High School programme.
He said his decision to go to school at age 71 was to motivate as well as serve as a model for school dropouts and street children to emphasise the importance of acquiring education.
According to him, young people should not focus their attention on making money by engaging in menial jobs such as galamsey, truck pushing but show determination to acquire training and skills to better their future.
Mr Baiden advised young people to take advantage of the government’s free Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) to acquire relevant skills for their future employment.
