Let water flow to Bortianor Hills
Dear Editor,
I have become very concerned about the persistent lack of pipe-borne water at Bortianor Hills, a fast-growing community in the Ga South Municipality.
For years now, residents have not seen a single drop of water flow through their taps. The taps have become mere decorations in our homes. We wake up every morning not knowing where our next bucket of water will come from.
As a result, we have been forced to depend entirely on water tankers. The cost is unbearable. A single tanker of water now costs so much, depending on the size and the distance.
For an average family, this tanker lasts barely one to two weeks; meaning a family spends over GH₵2,000 to GH₵ 3,000 a month on water alone.
This is money that should go to cater school fees, food, and rent.
This water is not only costly, but it is also unsafe. The water from some tankers is not treated, and we are not sure of its source. Yet we have no choice but to use it for cooking, bathing, and drinking.
The environment is also suffering. Because of the scarcity, many residents have resorted to digging wells and buying sachet water, leaving plastic waste all over the community.
We are appealing to the Ghana Water Company Limited, the Ga South Municipal Assembly, and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources to urgently investigate why water does not flow to Bortianor Hills and fix it. If there is a broken pipeline, let it be repaired. If there is a rationing programme, let us be informed. Silence is not acceptable when people are thirsty.
Water is life. No Ghanaian should have to buy life at such an expensive price.
Ewurabena,
Bortianor Hills
