Hearts, Oly locked in cagey encounters
Steven Mukwala – Kotoko
The battle for Ghana Premier League (GPL) survival takes an interesting twist this weekend with Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics, both caught up in a relegation dogfight, engaged in dicey match day 32 fixtures that could determine their fate.
At this stage of the competition, Asante Kotoko have assumed the role of kingmakers, having to play the two Accra rivals who are both gasping for breath.
Kotoko upset the Phobians last weekend in Kumasi with a 2-0 win as Olympics won against Berekum Chelsea in Accra to close the gap on the Phobians.
With other relegation candidates Heart of Lions and Dreams FC gradually drifting away from the zone, Hearts and Olympics have come under intense pressure to deliver to move to safer grounds but their form have made it extremely difficult.
After denying the Phobians a climb, Kotoko would be at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex to face Olympics in another thriller.
Depending on the outcome of yesterday’s game involving Hearts and Nations FC at the Accra Sports Stadium, Olympics would know the impact of their battle to avoid relegation based on the outcome.
For the Porcupine Warriors, it would be a moment to prove that the win over the Phobians was not a fluke.
For the Wonder Club, it is another win-or-burst match which they must go all out to win.
Elsewhere, Bechem United would welcome Aduana Stars to Bechem; Legon Cities face Tano Bofoakwa at Dawu; Nsoatreman to engage Accra Lions; Berekum Chelsea against RTU; Heart of Lions as guests of Medeama; Samartex face-to-face with Goldstars and Dreams FC against Karela United.
