Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi sues Afia Schwarzenegger for defamation

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, has filed a defamation lawsuit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger over allegations he says have damaged his reputation.

The case was filed at the High Court in Accra. According to the writ, Sammy Gyamfi, who is also known for his role as a spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims that Afia Schwarzenegger made false and damaging statements about him on social media.

In a video shared online, Afia Schwarzenegger allegedly claimed that Mr. Gyamfi was buying cars for female students at the University of Ghana, Legon suggesting that he was involved in romantic relationships with some of them.

According to the suit, she went on to say she had a list of these girls and was in touch with an informant who could confirm the details.

The lawsuit states that Afia Schwarzenegger mentioned Mr. Gyamfi’s wife and her younger sister, claiming the sister had recently purchased a house in the United States, statements Mr. Gyamfi says are untrue and meant to embarrass him.

In his statement of claim, Mr. Gyamfi is asking the court to declare the statements as defamatory.

He is also seeking general damages for the harm done to his character, exemplary damages of GHS 10 million, A court order to prevent Afia Schwarzenegger from repeating such claims and a public apology and retraction to be published three times in the Daily Graphic and posted on TikTok and other platforms where the original video was shared
