The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested four people in connection with a shooting incident that occurred during a burial and funeral ceremony at Asamankese in the Eastern Region.
The incident, the Command said, took place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, and left six civilians and three police officers injured.
The Police said they received information that some individuals were transporting guns and cartridges into a room near the Chief’s Palace.
It explained that a team of officers was immediately dispatched to the scene, where four suspects were arrested.
The Command added that one single-barrel gun, 84 live cartridges, seven cutlasses, and two knives were retrieved during the operation.
It identified the suspects as Isaac Ntim, Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismark K. K. Adam (29), and Buaben Richard (25). The Command noted that the suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations.
The Police further explained that shortly after the arrests, some agitated youth attacked the officers with stones and other objects. It said three officers sustained injuries to their heads and hands, while two police vehicles had their windscreens and side glasses damaged.
It mentioned that the youth also blocked the Asamankese–Akroso road and fired guns indiscriminately around the Chief’s Palace.
According to the Command, the disturbance stemmed from a disagreement over the bereaved family’s decision to bury their six deceased relatives in the royal cemetery.
The Command added that six civilians David Odame (28), Musah Gyakweli (29), Patrick Ofosu, Emmanuel Obeng (18), Asamoah Sey (18), and one other yet to be identified sustained gunshot wounds. It said all the victims are currently receiving treatment at the Asamankese Government Hospital.
