Committee on Human Rights engages Amnesty International Ghana

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Human Rights has met Amnesty International Ghana to find areas of collaboration and discuss the updates on human rights Bills.
The Country Manager of Amnesty International Ghana, Genevieve Partington, her team and fellow partners of Amnesty International provided a comprehensive briefing on their operational activities and efforts to uphold human rights across diverse sectors.
The meeting discussed the push for a human rights agenda in the context of drug use and the rights of the poor. It also touched on an update on the Witchcraft Bill, and the challenges faced in obtaining information from the police.
Additionally, the Community Sentencing Bill, which was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, was mentioned, but it is yet to be presented to Parliament.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim Yaw, commended Amnesty International for its efforts in promoting human rights.
The committee expressed its desire to collaborate with Amnesty International and engage with other high-profile CSOs to assist in executing their activities to educate the public on human rights.
