Chairman Wontumi under investigation for various criminal offences – Justice Srem-Sai 

The Deputy Attorney-General,  Justice Srem-Sai has revealed, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako is under investigation for various criminal offences.

Chairman Wontumi as he is affectionately called is currently in the grips of Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

He has been granted a GHC50 million baill with two sureties,  however,  he’s not been able to meet the conditions.

In a writeup on his Facebook page,  the Deputy AG wrote, “Suspect BERNARD ANTWI BOASIAKO, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi, is under investigation for various criminal offences (including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, and money laundering).”

He noted that the criminal investigation is running concurrently with asset recovery processes – to prevent further dissipation of what law enforcement agencies strongly suspect to be proceeds of crime. 

According to him, the suspect is also under a second strand of investigation which is part of a lager international organised crime scheme.

The Deputy AG added that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is assiduously working with our international law enforcement partners on this second strand of criminal investigations.
