BSoG holds breast cancer awareness walk

 The Breast Society of Ghana (BSoG) held a breast can­cer awareness walk over the weekend, aiming to boost nationwide awareness about breast cancer and encourage early detection.

The event started at the Independence Square in Ac­cra, proceeding through major streets with participants from the Ghana Armed Forces, Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, corporate institutions, and numerous breast cancer survivors.

In an interview with jour­nalists after the walk, BSoG’s newly elected president, Dr Josephine Nsaful, stressed the importance of public education on breast cancer, particularly as misinformation and stigma remain barriers to early inter­vention.

She reaffirmed BSoG’s com­mitment to ongoing outreach beyond October, emphasising that an informed public was key to identifying early symptoms for timely treatment.

“We are serious about saving lives through awareness and urge everyone to join us in end­ing the stigma and supporting those affected by the disease,” Dr Nsaful stated.

Margaret Dame, a breast cancer survivor who took part in the walk, noted the impact of survivors sharing their expe­riences, as it reassures others that breast cancer was not a death sentence.

She urged survivors to speak up and educate others, stress­ing the need for early interven­tion and support for those in need.

The BSoG intends to continue such activities across the coun­try to foster a more supportive environment for breast cancer patients and survivors.
