48 Engineer Regiment to be major sub-contractor on Accra-Kumasi Expressway, $2bn ready- Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces will serve as the major sub-contractor for the construction of the new Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

He also directed the regiment to begin preparations to clear the Right-of-Way for the proposed New Accra Orbital road.

President Mahama made the announcement during a ceremony for the handling over of Right-of-Way clearance near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

According to the President, government has already secured $2 billion in a special account for the commencement of the expressway project, with the amount expected to reach $4 billion by the close of the year to fully finance the project.

He disclosed that the Expression of Interest for pre-qualification of contractors for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway was published on Friday, September 11, 2026.

This will be followed by a contractor selection process lasting not more than four weeks, with the contract expected to be awarded before the end of the year.
