Zanetor Rawlings calls on EOCO to probe alleged land takeover at CMB Abuja Market
The Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has called on the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the alleged takeover of land at the CMB Abuja market in Accra.
She said the situation was creating instability among traders and drivers who depended on the area for their daily work.
According to her, thousands of market women and hundreds of drivers would lose their livelihoods if the enclave was taken over.
Dr. Rawlings warned that the development could also affect food security in the capital since most food supplies from across the country passed through the Abuja CMB market.
She reminded the public that the market had been recognized as essential to the city’s food chain, which was why it was allowed to operate during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The MP stressed that protecting the market was not only about securing jobs but also about safeguarding Accra’s food supply.
