 The Prophet part 7

As they left his house, Mr Amoako gave them GH¢2,000.

“Mary, haven’t we done rather well for one day? 25 million! I think we can get ready to leave this miserable thief to his troubles. The chairs are our last transaction.”

“You impress me, Suzzie. Anyone would, in this situation, want to milk the man for as much money as they can.”

“I’m not a fool, Mary. God will certainly punish this man, sooner or later, for deceiving people. I have no respect for him that is why we must leave him as quickly as possible and put our money to good use.”

“Do you know what, Suzzie. What surprises me is that for a man of God, he makes little or no effort on the Word of God or morality. His references to the Bible are very shallow, and he doesn’t seem to mind what you think about his drinking, his womanising and his love for money. So how do we tell him we are leaving?”

“Leave that to me, Mary. I’ll have a plan ready by tomorrow.”

“By the way, Betty said she wanted to discuss something with us rather urgently, so why don’t we go home and see her.”

“I will, but if she starts any long sermon I’ll ask permission to go home and pound fufu to eat and come back.”

The voices started speaking, and rather unwillingly, Antubam disentangled himself from the big tall woman.

We are preparing for your radio broadcasts. More people will follow you, and more money, and women. When you go to any radio station, sprinkle some of the water on the floor of the station and on the microphone. We will work on man vain people, and people without the book, and they will follow you in their numbers. You must go quickly to our master this weekend for the stick, which will help you defend yourself when people try to attack you or steal your powers.

“What was that, Antubam?” the big lady asked.

“I said you must call me Osofo.”

“Does an Osofo sleep with married women? Tweaa! I asked you, what those noises like voices were. You seemed to be listening to them.”

“I was only praying. Look, you don’t understand the life of a preacher, so don’t talk the way you are’.

“Now, listen, Antubam. You don’t fool me. You are no man of God. I see that you are making money, and I want to become your girlfriend, so that you take care of my needs. Quite obviously, you enjoy being with me. I don’t mind your having other women. I saw the ladies going home with you, and I saw you giving some money to the two ladies who just called. But I want my regular share of your time, and your money. You do that, and there will be no problem.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“Let’s put it this way. I am proposing a very effective plan which will help both of us. I will take care of your needs, including cooking, washing and, of course, the bedroom. And in return for that, you make sure I always have money in my purse.”

After a couple of minutes’ silence, Antubam finally spoke.

“Anyway, you can go home now. I will think about what you said. I’m travelling for an appointment tomorrow, so we can talk on Sunday or Monday?”

“I’m coming on Sunday evening to stay overnight, so make sure none of your holy ladies is here. By the way, I need some money to shop for home.”

“Do you know what? I don’t like your way of talking and making demands.”

“I’m very sorry, Antubam. I’ll try to be more polite. But the money, please.”

Antubam put GH¢100 in her hand.

“Antubam, I’ll take this for today, but if you want a peaceful relationship make sure you are very generous with me, okay? Don’t let me repeat that’.

He saw her off, and as her taxi drove off Antubam wondered what he had led himself into. The lady was simply beautiful and irresistible, but she was obviously trouble. He had to try and control her, with the help of the dwarfs if possible.
