Teshie Homowo Cycling Challenge today

Young Phil Bertino will participate in today’s Teshie Homowo Cycling Challenge as a guest rider to mark the Homowo celebration of the chiefs and people of Teshie.

The 14-year-old autistic cycling sensation would join over 60 professional riders for the 17th edition of the challenge organized by Quick Step Cycling Club with support from the Liztino Center for Children with Special Needs.

Young Phil, who has over the year’s engaged in cycling as part of efforts to create awareness on autism across the country says Saturday’s event would serve as another platform to exhibit his talent.

“I am excited to join cyclists across the capital and beyond for this race which would see some of the best in the country battle for glory,”he stated.

The 2021 challenge is a 90km criteria race with about 40 lapses and expected to have 12 clubs participating.

Speaking ahead of the race, Mr Nathaniel Sowah Agoe, the Organizer of the eventexpressedexcitement to have Young Phil on board as it would go a long way to attract young people to the sport.

“We need to nurture young cyclists to take over from the old ones and having Phil on board would be a step in the right direction,” he stated.

He said, there would be attractive prizes for distinguished cyclists and urged all to come on board to support.

“We have organised this for the past 17 years and it was without accident. I urge corporate Ghana to come on board to support this,” he stated.

He also asked cyclists to remain disciplined as they work towards making the challenge one of the best in the country.
