Reclaim Textile Network marks first anniversary with fashion show
Creativity, innovation and sustainable fashion took centre stage at the first anniversary celebration of the Reclaim Textile Network (RTN), as students from second-cycle and tertiary institutions dazzled guests with impressive modelling performances.
Held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers Hall in Accra last Friday, the event featured a vibrant catwalk session where students confidently showcased elegant outfits designed entirely from recycled fabric waste.
Beyond the runway, the exhibition also displayed a variety of products made from textile waste, including school bags and door mats, highlighting the potential of transforming discarded materials into practical and valuable items.
Founded by Dr Christiana Konamah Okai-Mensah, RTN is a non-governmental organisation committed to promoting textile recycling and environmental awareness.
Since its launch last year, the organisation has trained more than 4,000 students from second-cycle and tertiary institutions, as well as over 400 communities, in converting textile waste into useful products.
Speaking at the event, Dr Okai-Mensah expressed hope that the Ministry of Education would embrace the initiative to encourage students to use textile waste for practical lessons instead of purchasing new textiles
