President Mahama has reduced the size of the presidency from 355 to 233- Felix ofosu kwakye discloses
The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says President John Mahama has reduced the number of political appointees at the Presidency from 355 under the previous administration to 233.
According to him, the reduction forms part of the President’s commitment to cut down the size of government and promote efficiency in public administration.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu made the disclosure during the Government Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 15, 2026.
He explained that the total number of staff at the Presidency has also reduced from 953 in 2024 to 808 under the current administration.
“The President promised to reduce the number of political appointees and people who work at the Presidency, and he has done exactly that,” he stated.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu noted that the current staff strength at the Presidency is made up of 233 political appointees and 575 civil and public servants.
He said the reduction reflects President Mahama’s efforts to fulfil campaign promises aimed at reducing government expenditure and improving efficiency in governance.
The minister further indicated that the President has also reduced the number of ministers and deputy ministers, noting that there are currently 58 serving ministers and deputy ministers.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu added that despite criticisms from some sections of the public and the opposition, the government remains committed to prudent management of public resources and accountable governance.
