Parliament opens first Parliamentary Museum to the public

The Parliament of Ghana will officially open its first Parliamentary Museum to the public on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the Parliamentary Service, the museum will be open to visitors from Monday to Friday, between 9:00am and 4:30pm.

The museum, located within Parliament House in Accra, is described as a landmark legacy project of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S. K. Bagbin.

Parliament said the facility is intended to deepen public understanding of Ghana’s parliamentary history, institutions and law making process.

It will house a collection of historical photographs, documents, records of past parliamentary proceedings, artefacts and memorabilia belonging to former Speakers.

The museum will also feature archival materials on the Legislative Council, Ghana’s constitutional development and other important milestones in the country’s political history.

Visitors will further have access to ceremonial and symbolic items associated with Parliament, as well as interactive multimedia exhibits explaining the law making process and the history of governance in Ghana.

The Parliamentary Service said the museum will provide an opportunity for the general public to learn more about how Parliament has evolved over the years.

Students and researchers are also expected to use it as a resource for studying Ghana’s parliamentary and constitutional development, while tourists and other cultural visitors can explore the country’s legislative heritage.

The museum will serve as a repository of Parliament’s institutional records for Members of Parliament and staff, while providing international partners and other legislatures with an opportunity to learn about Ghana’s democratic history.

The Parliamentary Service said the opening of the museum forms part of Parliament’s commitment to openness and public education, as well as preserving the country’s legislative history for future generations.

Members of the public who wish to visit the museum are required to book through Parliament’s official website by selecting “Visit” and then “Museum” before completing and submitting the online form.

Applicants will receive a notification once their requests have been approved.
