‘Over To You Joe Lartey’ laid to rest

Hundreds of mourners including the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and government officials last Saturday paid their last respects to the late Ghanaian sports commentator, Joachim Awuley Lartey (Joe Lartey).

‘Over To You Joe Lartey,’ as he was affectionately known, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the age of 96.

The solemn funeral service held at the forecourt of the State House attracted tributes from government, wife, children, family, SWAG, GBC Radio, Accra Academy, among others. 

The Deputy Sports Minister, Mr Bobie Opoku, described Joe Lartey as a trailblazer and an inspirational storyteller whose contributions to broadcast journalism extended beyond the commentary booth.

Mrs Emily Lartebea Lartey, the widow, described the late broadcaster as a diligent man who loved his job and executed every assignment with diligence.

Preaching the sermon, the Bishop of the Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey, urged people to desire to live righteous lives and give their best to the service of God and humanity.

Joe Lartey was interred at the Gbawe cemetery in Accra.
