MoE welcomes SHS ‘freshers’ to 2025/26 academic year

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has extended its best wishes to the 590,000 first-year Senior High School (SHS) students who have reported to their various schools.

The students reported between Saturday, October 18 and Monday, October 20, to begin the 2025/26 academic year.

A statement signed by Mr Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister of Education, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, said:

“This marks a significant milestone in their academic journey and a new chapter in their educational pursuit.”

“The Ministry warmly welcomes all newly admitted students to the secondary education system and urges them to approach this next phase of their learning with dedication, discipline, and enthusiasm,” the statement added.

The Ministry commended parents and guardians for their patience and cooperation throughout the school placement process.

It also announced that placement into schools and residential status for the 2025/26 academic year had officially closed. Accordingly, parents and guardians were urged to proceed to their assigned schools to complete enrollment formalities and ensure their wards settled in smoothly for the commencement of academic work.

“The Ministry of Education reaffirms its commitment to providing quality, equitable, and inclusive education for all Ghanaian children and assures the public that every effort is being made to ensure a smooth and successful start to the new academic year across the country,” the statement said.

“We once again welcome our young learners to the senior high school family and wish them the very best in their academic and personal development.” — GNA
