Art enthusiasts, photographers and creatives over the weekend graced Ghanaian fine-art and fashion photographer, Michael Aboya’s maiden edition of Stories at BEADS at the Ako-Adjei Park.

Beyond Excellence Artist Development Space (BEADS) is a dynamic community, bringing together emerging and established artists, creators and art enthusiasts under one roof.

The photo exhibition was a platform for young creatives to pick lessons and inspiration from ace creatives through their works and career paths.

According to the photographer – recipient of the Best Portrait Photography Agora Images in 2020 in Spain – his inspiration came from family, books, documentaries and society thus helping him in his imaginative process as exposed by his camera.

Speaking to The Spectator at the event, the theme for the occasion ‘Journey to the 8’ was birthed after his dad’s demise, which spurred him to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional photographer.

“This is a story about my journey that never ends; a story that will always be told long after I’m gone. I stopped studying computer programming and used the little savings and funds I had to buy a Canon T3 camera with a Canon EF 70mm – 300mm lens.

“In early 2017, I started working as a full-time photographer, dedicated to learning and very importantly becoming a better version of myself,” he noted.

Michael Aboya’s images explore emotions, love and strength through composition, lighting, and subject matter. Today, these images tell stories that inspire, empower and connect with the viewer.

“I look forward to continuing the exploration of our humanity for many years to come by creating more images that tell the Ghanaian stories and cultures,” he said.

His hope for the future in photography within the country is for others to consume and value the worth and beauty of the career.
