Kobidi AME Zion School closes down after death of headmaster, teacher

The Kobidi AME Zion School in the Sunyani West District of the Bono Region has temporarily been closed down, following the boycott of classes by teachers in the school.

The action by the teachers was occasioned by the death of the school’s head teacher and a teacher whose deaths were linked to curses invoked by a pupil.

The boycott has left pupils of both primary and Junior High School children having a field day, roaming about the township.

Members of the community confirmed to The Spectator on Wednesday that the school had been closed since Monday (May 18) with their children loitering about without attending school.

The unfortunate deaths were attributed to the curse invoked on the school management by a pupil of the school.

During a visit to Kobidi, a farming community near Chiraa, The Spectator learnt from the community members that the action by the teachers followed the sudden death of the two- Madam Gladys Batinge, the school’s head teacher and a teacher.

As of 12 noon on Wednesday, The Spectator on a visit noticed that all the classrooms were locked with no teacher nor pupil on sight.

A source in the community, who confirmed the development to The Spectator, declined to speak on the issue except to say that the traditional authorities of the community had taken up the matter and were planning to organise a media briefing on Friday (yesterday) to address the issue.

“I don’t want to speak ahead of the press briefing by traditional authorities that might show disrespect. They are equally interested in finding a solution to this problem for our children to return to school.” the source stated.
