The Ghana National Fire Service has moved to investigate a viral video on social media that appears to show fire service personnel assaulting a civilian.

It added that the case, including claims that a journalist was assaulted, is currently under police investigation.

According to the Fire Service, the video shows an altercation at a fire scene involving firefighters and a suspected thief.

The suspect, together with some accomplices, allegedly attacked fire officers while they were carrying out their duties.

Management of the Service has set up an internal committee to conduct a full investigation into the incident and establish all the facts.

The Fire Service stressed that while it condemns attacks on its personnel, it does not tolerate any form of physical or verbal assault on civilians by its officers, no matter the provocation.

The Service has therefore appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the investigations to run their course.
