GHS hands over Chest Clinic laboratory project to Koopers International

The Ghana Health Service has handed over the site for the renovation and expansion of the Chest Clinic Laboratory at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to Koopers International.

The ceremony, held on Thursday 14 November 2025, marked a major step toward improving diagnostic services at the facility.

The project is funded by the Global Fund and has been in planning for the past two years.

During the event, the Global Fund and the Ghana Health Service formally handed the project to Koopers International.

The company pledged to work extensively and deliver the project within the agreed timeframe.

The upgraded laboratory will provide more space to accommodate additional machines, support a smoother workflow, and improve the quality and efficiency of services.

Koopers International also presented the proposed architectural design and layout of the laboratory after completion. The project is expected to be completed by 31 December 2025.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Deputy Director of Estate Management, Gerald Asakeya, and a Director at the National TB Control Programme, Dr Bernard Ziem.

Also present were the Director of Administration, Alhassan Munir; Deputy Director of Medical Affairs, Dr Harry Akoto; Acting Director of General Services, Cynthia Gyekye; Head of Public Relations, Mustapha Salifu; Head of the Biomedical Engineering Unit, Dr Emmanuel Lloyd Baffoe; and Head of the Laboratory, Dr Michael Amo Omari.

Representatives from Koopers International, staff of the Ghana Health Service, and staff of the Chest Clinic were also in attendance.

The ceremony reflected a shared commitment to improving health infrastructure and strengthening patient care.
