General secretary of GRNMA responds to rude remarks to health minister

The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, has denied claims that he was rude or disrespectful to the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
His response comes after some critics accused him of attacking the minister in comments he made following an assault on a staff member of a regional hospital.
The incident happened when a group of people stormed the hospital to demand care for their ward, leading to an assault to one of the health workers in the hospital as well as public outrage.
Among those involved was Ralph Saint Williams, who has been sharply criticized for his role in the attack.
Speaking in an interview on 3News, Dr. Tenkorang-Twum explained that his remarks had been misunderstood.
He said he never described the minister as a farmer or questioned his competence, but rather raised concerns about the content of an official release on the matter.
“I did not attack the minister. I cannot insult the minister. I was interrogating the content of the release and not the personality,” he clarified.
He added that his initial interview was in Twi and might have been misrepresented when translated into English.
Dr. Tenkorang-Twum emphasized that he has personally met the minister and assured him of his full support.
According to him, the focus should be on ensuring that the concerns of nurses and midwives are addressed, while working together to help the health minister succeed.
