Five months old foetus found in a gutter at Abeka-Botwe

Ms Amanda Apenu
Some residents at Abeka- Botwe woke up to a shocking view of a five months old foetus in a chocked gutter on Wednesday morning.
The foetus was found by a resident who had gone to clean the stretch of the gutter in front of her house and drew the attention of other residents.
Some youth managed to remove the foetus from the gutter and alerted the Assembly member for the area and other Unit Committee members.
In a telephone interview with the Assembly Member, Amanda Apenu, she said, “I was informed by some residents about the incident and quickly rushed to the scene.
“I wanted to inform the police but later realised it is an environmental issue so I called the head of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Department (EHSD) of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly to take it up from there,” she noted.
The Assembly Member further stated that residents believed that the person who dumped the foetus was not from the area, saying she might be from another vicinity.
Speaking to a resident who identified herself as Sister Akua, she said, it was her sister who saw it and drew the attention of neighbours but said she does not believe the person who did that was from the vicinity.
Describing it as unfortunate and sad, she urged young men and women to protect themselves if they do not want to get pregnant.
At around 1pm, five officers led by the Director of ESHD, Mr Boniface Ashaley, picked the foetus to be buried at the Achimota cemetery.
