Dzidula Pink Foundation calls for increased education, conversations around cancer
DZIDULA Pink Foundation has called for increased public education and open conversations around cancer to encourage regular screening and timely medical attention.
According to the founder of the foundation, Mrs Fafa Gozo, cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, cutting across age, gender and social background.
She made the call during a health talk and screening session held at the St Gregory Catholic Hospital, Budumburam, on Tuesday to commemorate World Cancer Day, which is observed annually on February 4.
The day is marked to raise awareness about cancer and to encourage its prevention, early detection and treatment.
Mrs Gozo said although health experts continue to stress that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes, many cases are diagnosed late due to fear, stigma and limited awareness.
“As the world observes World Cancer Day on February 4 each year, the Foundation reiterates that screening saves lives, awareness inspires change, and collective action remains key to reducing the burden of cancer,” she said.
Committed to awareness, empowerment, support and healing, Mrs Gozo said the foundation is also using the day to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer, while offering solidarity and hope to patients, survivors and their families.
She called on both men and women to undergo regular screening to aid early detection and prevention of cancer.
