● Mr. Mike Similao

A counsellor, Mr Mike Similao has cautioned young men who have intentions of tying the knot to seek sound counsel from experienced married men about the dynamics of a marriage adventure.

The caution from a marriage veteran with over 50 years experience was as a result of the increasing rate of divorce cases reported in recent times.

Mr Similao advised young men to look beyond the beautiful looks of their partners and know whether she is a marriage ‘material.’

That, he said was a requisite for building a long-lasting marital relationship devoid of irrelevant troubles.

He said earlier days of courtship usually look rosy and in a conscious bid to maintain that, it requires falling in love many times with the same person to make the marriage healthier.

Sharing more insights with young men, he disclosed that the virtue of prioritising one’s partner in marriage was the ultimate key to building a stronger bond that tends to last forever, irrespective of the challenges that may occur.

Referring to an existing data from the 2021 Population and Housing Census, he said 553,065 persons in Ghana have had their marriages collapsed while 405,090 have separated.

This statistic, he said could be as a result of having weak foundation.

According to him, pragmatic measures must continually be put in place to spice up one’s marital life.

Transparency, he said was an essential tool which builds an unbreakable trust in a marriage and has the tendency of alleviating all forms of doubts.

Mr Similao said it was important to communicate frequently in marriage to know each other on a deeper level.”

The counsellor admonished newly-wedded couples not to be overwhelmed when a marriage is at its fresh stage and looking exhilarating, but instead work harder to maintain the love shared.

“Make sure you pay attention to issues and find solutions to them by building positive habits to ensure a peaceful adventure into the future,” he advised.
