Concern Citizen Against Galamsey demo underway

The Coalition of Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey today hit the streets of Accra to commence its three-day demonstration.

The protesters gathered at Okponglo this morning and commenced the demonstration aimed at raising awareness about the destructive impact of illegal mining affectionately called galamsey, and demanding an immediate stringent action from the government.

According to the group, there will demonstrate again tomorrow, the second day and hold a vigil on the third day, Saturday, where they will display the devastating effect of galamsey on the environment, specifically, the Pra, Ankobra and Birim Rivers.

Protesters are marching from Okponglo through the Association International School to Kawukudi Junction and then to the Parliament House where a petition will be submitted to demand the release of the persons arrested during the Democracy Hub’s demonstration on September 22.
