Callighana Company Limited donates to Ministry of Food and Agriculture

Callighana Company Limited, a subsidiary of the global agrochemical giant United Phosphorous Limited (UPL), has donated 20 KS-16 Knapsack sprayers valued at GHC 10,000 and a cheque of GHC 10,000 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Accra on Wednesday.
The gesture was in support of the upcoming National Farmers’ Day celebration which will be held at the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa, in the Western Region on Friday December 1, this year.
This year’s event is under the theme “ delivering smart solutions for sustainable food security and resilience.”
Presenting the items, the Commercial and Marketing Manager of the company, Sadashiv Ampratwum said the company since 2003 had consistently donated to the support the farmer’s day celebration.
He said the donation also formed part of the company’s mission of improving access to high-quality inputs to increase farmer’s productivity and improve livelihoods.
He said Callighana had been a major distributor of crop protection products, seeds, irrigation kits, spraying equipment, and BioSolutions.
Mr Ampratwum said his outfit also aims at safeguarding and improving the livelihoods of farmers through effective community engagement strategies and interventions such as income diversification of products and field days.
Receiving the items, the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture in charge of crops, Yaw Frimpong Addo appreciated Callighana for its continuous support towards the celebration.
He said for agriculture to be sustainable, there was a need for quality equipment to help farmers plant and grow their products.
He urged other corporate organisations to donate in support of this year’s Farmers day celebration.
