 ATU holds maiden Innovation, Career, Job Fair

 The maiden edition of the Accra Tech­nical University (ATU) Innovation, Career and Job fair officially ended at the school’s premises last week.

Held in partnership with African Centre for Career En­hancement and Skills Support, the two-day event themed ‘Career connect: Foster­ing employability and skills development through indus­try-academia collaboration’ brought together experts and students.

The initiative seeks to inspire creativity, innovation and reduce unemployment.

Out of the 18 submission of projects to the panel, three groups emerged as the win­ners.

The first group winners were awarded GH₵5,000 for developing AI powered Mobile Application for real- time nutritional assessment and awareness. They included Ju­lius Boakye, Cephas Sodzedo and Moses Quaye.

The second group received GH₵3,000 for developing a frozen functional food product from local ingredients. They are Prince Arthur, Jane Ethel Amoa- Abban and Roberta Einam Abayah.

Philip Tetteh, Hoan Marseille Goh and Edwin Jude took the third position for producing a Smart mining helmet. They took home an amount of GH₵2000.

The Acting Vice Chancel­lor of the School, Professsor Amevi Ackapovi, said the pro­gramme was to prepare the students for the job market.

According to him, bridging the gap between academia and industry remains a core vision of the institution, emphasising its significance in “equipping students with practical skills, creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset in the world of work”.

The Guest of Honour for the occasion, Mr David Eduaful, General Manager of Labadi Beach Hotel congratulated the winners and urged them to strive for excellence and seize every opportunity to learn and grow.

According to him, in a world where the nature of work is transformed by digitalisa­tion, there was the need for students and institutions to collaborate across sectors.

“Practical training enables students to have knowledge about whatever they learn and what goes on in the sec­tor,” Mr David Eduaful added
