Abandoned patient at Ojobi: Health Ministry refers alleged medical misconduct to CID, AG

The Ministry of Health has handed over the case of alleged medical misconduct that led to the death of an old woman at Ojobi to the Criminal Investigative Department(CID) and Attorney General (AG) for further investigation.

The alleged medical misconduct happened at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba in the Central Region.

The Transfer of the case to the CID and AG follows an investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which uncovered serious misconduct by some hospital officials in relation to the death of a patient who was transferred to Ojobi, where she was abandoned until her demise.

In a statement issued by the Health Ministry today, Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the GHS investigation concluded that the employees involved failed to act appropriately, contributing to the tragic outcome.

Against this backdrop, the committee overseeing the inquiry recommended internal disciplinary actions against the staff involved. However, the Ministry of Health has opted for further investigations, citing the severity of the incident and the resulting loss of life.
